EA in Schools

Part of Energy Action is our Energy Action in Schools Program. The purpose of this program is to teach about energy conservation to students at all grade levels while encouraging the practice of energy conservation, especially in the schools! Here are some of our programs that have had great success.

Energy Star Schools

We want to recognize two schools that have received the Energy Star label for their buildings. This recognition from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is an honor not easily earned. Oak Hollow Elementary and Rose Creek Elementary Schools in Jordan School District in Salt Lake City, Utah have achieved this accomplishment.

The Energy Star program focuses on building performance and compares results with comparable size and use facilities. In order to qualify, the building must submit at least one year of utility history data and have a mechanical engineer verify lighting levels and meet code pertaining to air quality (including indoor air pollutants) and energy use. The schools have to rank in the top 25% nationwide with the school's data normalized to its location in terms of energy use.

Oak Hollow Elementary and Rose Creek Elementary are the first schools in the state of Utah to be recognized with the Energy Star title with only 216 schools in the entire United States having been awarded. On March 13, 2001, an impressive award ceremony was conducted at Oak Hollow with guest of honor Lt. Governor Olene Walker of the State of Utah giving remarks and leading the presentation.

Congratulations to the students and staff of

OAK HOLLOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
&
ROSE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Keep up the good work!
