Portfolio Guidelines

Your portfolio serves as the “product” reflecting your professional development and classroom accomplishments. It is the assessment tool used to formulate your grade and to determine recognition and awards. National Energy Foundation will use some portfolios for exhibits, websites, newsletters, examples, etc.

  • Use a binder.
  • Contents should follow in the order of the course requirements.
  • Contents should include, but are not limited to: examples of student work, copies of letters or flyers, photographs of presentations, projects, field trips.

Submit one portfolio per teacher. DO NOT copy or duplicate a fellow teacher’s work.

If you need help or have questions, call 1-800-616-TEAM between 8:30am and 5:00pm MT; the National Energy Foundation Programs Department will assist you.

Guidelines for an “A” portfolio with awards consideration:

FORM:

  • Three-ring binder of adequate spine width to accommodate your submission comfortably. Divided into sections and complied in the same order as the list of program requirements.
  • Informative cover or title page with necessary contact information; i.e., your name, school name and school address, name of program implemented, grade and year.
  • Table of contents or information for the reviewer regarding your arrangement of the required materials.
  • Dividers (preferably ‘tab’ type) that clearly follow your table of contents.

CONTENT:

  • Portfolio Cover Sheet (click to download)
  • Selective, excellent samples and photos (if possible), of students in action. Samples of student work or individual or group projects. Insightful and/or creative student work samples are encouraged.
  • Tell the “course story” show the process, record events and projects that mark the progress of the class.
  • Be selective! (More is not always better … It may just be more.)
  • Your goal is to verify and display the successful completion of the program.

PRESENTATION:

  • Use chronological or topical format.

Topical: Arranged by, or relating to a particular topic.
Chronological: Arranged in order of time or occurrence.

You may combine presentation methods, but clearly identify method at beginning of portfolio.

  • NEATNESS does count! ‘Artsy’ is nice, but not required. A straight forward, simple, well documented portfolio is the expectation.
