NEF and NYSERDA join forces in energy education
NEF Materials Selected for New York State Energy Education Program

The National Energy Foundation (NEF) was recently awarded a contract by the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) to provide energy education materials to teachers across the state of New York participating in NYSERDA’s Energy Smart Students program.

Focusing on energy literacy and energy efficiency, the Energy Smart Students program will reach up to 2,000 K-12 teachers and as many as 200,000 students in the state of New York each year during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years. Teachers will receive energy education training at one-day workshops at various locations in upstate and downstate New York, as well as a classroom supply of NEF’s award-winning posters, teacher’s guides, and other instructional resources.

Regarding the new contract, NEF president and CEO Robert Poulson stated, “The selection of the National Energy Foundation as the materials provider to the Energy Smart Students program is an indication of the great quality of NEF materials, and a reflection of NEF’s long-standing commitment to strengthening energy education. We are honored to have this opportunity to work with NYSERDA in providing the very best energy education materials available to New York teachers and students.”

The 2007-08 Energy Smart Students program kicked-off with a Summer Energy Educator Institute July 16-20 in Albany, New York. NEF facilitators provided training for instructors from the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, a Long Island-based non-profit organization selected to implement the teacher training workshops, as well as a corps of New York energy educators who will be conducting workshops across the state.

The National Energy Foundation is a national 501 (c) (3) non-profit educational organization headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. NEF’s mission is to cultivate and promote an energy literate society. The Foundation is currently in its 31st year of service to education.

NEF recognizes the importance and contribution of natural resources to our economy, national security, environment and quality of life. Visit www.nef1.org to find out more about NEF.
