ICE Update
Boxes of Igniting Creative Energy Challenge entries have begun
rolling in from across the country. Entries from New Jersey,
Oklahoma, New York and Wyoming have already arrived. Johnson
Controls and the National Energy Foundation are proud to
sponsor such
an exciting and important energy challenge. This challenge
encourages teachers to ask K-12 students to learn more about
wise energy choices and reflect on their own energy ideas.
Washington D.C. is the destination for the winners, three
students and one teacher.
Visit www.ignitingcreativeenergy.org for
more information.
NEF Annual Report
National Energy Foundation has published its 2007-2008 Annual
Report. The report contains information about NEF’s
educational programs, materials, and financial performance.
The foundation met its forecasted goals and exceeded energy
education implementation opportunity estimates. New business/educational
partnerships were formed and new instructional materials
were developed. For a copy of the report, please email ty@nef1.org or call 800-616-8326.
New Catalog
National Energy Foundation is pleased to announce its new materials
catalog. To receive a copy of the NEF Materials Catalog,
please contact us at (800) 616-8326 or email ty@nef1.org.
NEF thanks Anne Wolfer for the design and layout work on
the catalog.
Brevard County School District, Rockledge,
FL
National Energy Foundation has partnered with Johnson Controls and Brevard County
School District for the past eight years to impact energy efficiency throughout
the district by addressing technology and education. The Energy Action Patrol
program, introduced to Brevard in 1999 continues to generate ideas resulting
in actions that reduce district energy usage. Congratulations to nine schools
and ancillary sites in Brevard County School District that were recognized in
February for the greatest energy reductions from July through December 2008.
These buildings reduced energy use from 21% up to 47%!
Energy By Design
This year marks the fourth year of partnership with Nicor Gas
Company in presenting the Energy By Design Student Contest.
Over 750 entries were received and judged this year. Of those,
63 have been moved on for final judging. The final judging
date is set for March 23rd. Visit www.energybydesign.org after
March 23rd to check out this year’s winners.
Debate
The 2009 Utah Debate Conference was again a huge success. Approximately
650 teachers and students gathered at Jordan High School
in Sandy, Utah on January 24th. The session featured keynote
speaker Salt Lake County Councilman Randy Horiuchi. The Policy
Resolution for the 2009 Debate Competition is “that
the state of Utah mandate a comprehensive recycling program
for all government sponsored agencies.” The Lincoln-Douglas
Resolution is “that mandated recycling in Utah is more
desirable than incentive programs.” NEF would like
to thank all the presenters, teachers and students for their
involvement in the 2009 Debate Program. Visit the debate
website for more information.
